General frequently asked questions
How do I get started with DHT?
It is a straightforward process that can be completed in just a few simple steps. To get started, you need to determine your specific goals and what you want to achieve with Dedicated Hacker Time.
Allocate the number of hours: Based on your goal, the first step would be to decide on the number of hours you would like to book with a hacker.
Program briefing: The next step would be describing your program and creating a briefing. This involves clearly explaining what you want hackers to focus on and providing a detailed overview of your program’s objectives.
Specify target assets and exclusions: The final step entails adding information about your target assets, exclusions, and technical details.
After these steps are completed, you will need to wait for the triage team to review your scope. Depending on their feedback, you may need to make some adjustments. Once this is set, your program status will automatically change to active, and at this point, you are ready to go!
What is Dedicated Hacker Time good for?
Dedicated Hacker Time will help you gain a higher level of security expertise and support than you may be able to achieve, for example, in-house.
Dedicated Hacker Time is valuable for security challenges and questions that lack ready-made solutions. It offers a personalized approach to address unique security concerns, and you are guaranteed that these will be addressed and looked at.
Booking Dedicated Hacker Time brings you several advantages in multiple circumstances:
- For instance, it could provide you with an extra set of eyes in your code reviews
- Or if you need guidance when searching for a security solution that would fit your needs
- Or you just need an extra pair of hands to help with a specific security assignment
Whether it is a request for a particular assignment or a security-related question, Dedicated Hacker Time will always come in handy.
What is the difference between Dedicated Hacker Time and Bug Bounty?
Dedicated Hacker Time refers to a specific amount of hours when a skilled hacker dedicates the time and knowledge to address any security-related request – whether to search for vulnerabilities and weaknesses within your system or answer security-related questions that may concern you. Unlike a Bug Bounty program, this approach ensures that you receive the exclusive and undivided attention of skilled hackers, solely focused on addressing and resolving your specific requests.
Dedicated Hacker Time also allows a more personalized and intensive examination of your digital assets, tailored to your unique security concerns. With Dedicated Hacker Time, you pay per hour for the time the hackers spend assessing your security needs. On the other hand, Bug Bounty runs for a longer time and often involves a larger group of hackers. In a Bug Bounty program, hackers are incentivized to discover vulnerabilities based on a “no cure, no pay” arrangement, where rewards are provided for each identified vulnerability, with the payout varying depending on the severity of the issue.
How do you select the hackers for my specific assignment?
Our network of hackers consists of people we personally know, as well as those who have undergone a rigorous selection process. In the beginning, they are placed in a ‘rookie-team’, where they are invited to join certain programs to see what findings they submit, how they communicate and what the reporting quality is. If this is all on par, we invite them to join more of our programs.
Throughout their time with Zerocopter, our triage team keeps track of their skills and adjusts their skill profile if needed. Based on that we select them for your specific scope or security questions.
Can I hire a team? I need this NOW
Yes you can! We have multiple hackers who are used to working as a team. So if you need a team to help you out as soon as possible, talk to our customer success team and they will set you up in no time.
Do I get a report of the findings?
It depends on the task the hacker(s) do for you. For example, if it’s an actual test, yes, if it’s a regular discussion or advice, then mostly no. But since hackers love to share their knowledge, you will get all the information you need, but not in an official report.
Can I hire a CISO for an hour?
Not at the moment, but we do get that question more often, so we are looking into the possibility of that.
